Larimer County is looking for groups to adopt trail in Horsetooth. If we can start volunteering sweat equity into Horsetooth Rock trail that eventually we'll have enough built up when they review the management plan next time. Of course, that would mean no more infidels poaching the Rock trail in the morning. It would be really poor form for us to adopt it and then get caught poaching.
To adopt we would need to organize 3 work days per year with 10 people minimum each day. That would be hard given the size of our group, but not so bad if everyone drags along a friend, spouse, kid to help out. We can also recruit from other groups interested in getting back onto Horsetooth.
we'll need to construct them as "benches" for the weary hikers to rest as they ascend the steep trail. Knowing fair well that some day they will serve another purpose.....
Are you completely serious about not poaching? My feelings are that no matter what we do, they are going to have their own agenda and will do whatever they want. I think adopting the trail is still a good idea, just don't do it for any other reason than it's the right thing to do. I don't beleive it will give us any more of a voice next time.
Sound like a good plan. I don't think we would have too much trouble getting 10 people together.
With our new skills a trail designers, maybe we could sway the apparent need for water bars.
