Mountain Biking, Fort Collins, Colorado... early :)

This week's race was held on the same course as race #1 only backwards, (get it now?) so it should have been all down hill right? The mud had a bit to say about that. The same gearing for race #1 was a bit harder to push in the soft tread after the weekend's rain.

As always the competition looked fit and ready to put some hurtin on. The first corner was wide and the pace quickly filled the legs with lactic acid. First obstacle, a little mud hole followed by a short steep left hand ascent. Practice lines are now filled with runners and bikes, no chance to ride it this lap. The next obstacle is the one you've been waiting for. Crank it up! you need to have some speed to jump over the barrier, sorry not this lap too many bodies around. OK, time to put the dismounts to the test. Unclip, step over, grab the frame, step through and don't trip, one, two, hop on and clip in. Breathe and settle in until your legs come back to you. Not so fast, there are some folks on your ass and they have some gears they want to try out. A few sweepers and into the tight stuff. Hope the chain is stronger than my legs on this one. Another long flat section. I bet Doug loves shifting about now. Back to the hills. Oops, sorry buddy didn't mean to undo your skewer with my front wheel. "Hey, your skewer is undone". That was an easy pass I have to remember that one. Mud hole number two and no way around. That feels good, now for a jog on the beach. Lap one down and there are still a couple obstacles waiting to take on all comers.

Take it wide, look for the line, stand on it, through the mud up the hill, next! Now take the corner easy, spot the barrier and hammer on it. Yeah baby yeah, that's was a good line..... so was the one I just rode. Too bad I have to ride around this whole course just to spend 20 seconds on those obstacles again.

So the final results weren't as good as last week. 20 seconds will last longer than the paper the results were written on.

Sorry no single speed category except for you Yann. One speed....FAST. Sunday's race at hughes stadium has a SS category though. I sent the flyer.
