4:50 Club

Mountain Biking, Fort Collins, Colorado... early :)

I wonder what common genes this group of rider has... the're probably 130,000 people living in the nearby area but only a group of 10 consistent riders are showing up at this strange hour of the day to:

Freeze their ass off, ride in the dark, go up some sick uphills, get blown away by the wind up top, ride on ice or thick snow when they are really nuts (even park in Snow), hurt themselves occasionally, hurt each other often, get golden dust in the eyes, frozen fingers, hoping for Michael, Glen and Ray to come back after their vacation, manage some very short nights varying from 5 to a max of 7 hours for the lucky ones... what else?

So what is it in those genes that make us stick around to keep doing this? Now, look under your forearm...see if there's a 4:50 imprint.. anything? did you actually checked?

There's got to be some serious joy going on up there to happen so often... Glad spring is here. Come and join us....

Ah yes, a perfect Sunday morning.....or any morning. Our faith is unquestionable, our addiction is pure and depending on who shows up for the ride we can be the Supreme Being.

The speed we seek does come at a cost - the money we spend is calories. We do inhale (quite often) and do get the munchies which a cliff bar quickly satisfies. Our gambling debt does not break the bank only our pride and an occasional bone. We like our woman in chains and hang out around bars. We drink when we drive and don't care to walk the line. Someday we may find a cure for our sickness......good thing there's only seven.

That was one of Reverend Lacey's greatest sermons. Captivating!
